How to Use the Bulk Image Renamer
Welcome to the official guide for the Photo Batch Master! This free online tool is designed to make organizing your image files simple and fast. Follow these steps to turn your messy photo library into a clean, sequentially named collection.
Step 1: Upload Your Images
The first step is to add your images to the tool. You have two easy options:
- Click to Select: Click anywhere inside the large dashed box. This will open your computer's file browser, allowing you to select multiple image files (like JPG, PNG, GIF, etc.).
- Drag and Drop: Simply drag your image files from a folder on your computer and drop them directly onto the upload area.
Important: Your files are processed locally in your browser. They are never uploaded to a server, ensuring your privacy is 100% protected.
Step 2: Define Your Naming Convention
Before you rename, you can set up how your new filenames will look. This gives you full control over the output.
- File Prefix: This is the text that will appear at the beginning of every filename. For example, you could use "Summer-Vacation-" or "Website-Portfolio-".
- Separator: Choose the character that separates your prefix from the number. You can select an underscore (_), a hyphen (-), or a period (.).
- Start Number: Set the number that the sequence will begin with. The default is 1, but you can start from 0, 100, or any number you choose.
Step 3: Choose Your Sorting Order
The tool needs to know the order in which to rename your files. You have three powerful sorting options:
- Chronological: This is the default and most popular option. It reads the photo's metadata (EXIF data) to find the exact date and time the photo was taken. If no date is found, it uses the file's last modified date. This is perfect for organizing photos from an event or trip.
- Filename: This option sorts the files alphabetically based on their original filenames.
- File Size: This sorts files from the smallest to the largest.
Step 4: Preview and Download
Once your files are uploaded and your settings are configured, the tool will show you a preview list. For each file, you'll see:
- A small thumbnail preview of the image.
- The original filename.
- The new, renamed filename.
- File size and date information.
When you're happy with the new names, click the "Download All Renamed Images" button. The tool will package all your renamed photos into a single, convenient .zip file for you to save.
